Pasir Gudang Working Trip…

OK, another updates.. haha..

Went to Pasir Gudang on the 26/04 (Sat). My company had rented a car for us to drive there. My senior drove and came to pick me up in the morning. But the traffic jam at the Causeway was really heavy. It took us around 1 1/2 hour just to get to the Woodlands checkpoint. By the time we reach JB, it was 1+pm liao. We went to Taman Sentosa for a quick lunch and then continued our journey to Pasir Gudang. In the begining, we kind of lost the direction heading. But after asking the locals, we managed to get back on track. When we reached the port in Pasir Gudang, it was around near to 4pm liao.

Reaching the rig, our supervisor who was there, briefed my senior on the outstanding things to do. Then we went to the rig and arranged our accomodation. Rested awhile, had our dinner on the rig and then went to sleep.

The next few days was working days. During the nite, after we knock off, we sometimes went out of the port to had our dinner. One of the day, we went to Taman Sentosa for dinner. Another day, our supervisor brought us to a kelong by Orang Asli to had seafood dinner. It was really great food. The chili crab that we had was big and nice. The craw of the crab is like the size of drumstick. The other seafood dishes was nice too. Another of the nite, we went to a local hawker for dinner. The area is like olden days of Singapore. The food is nice and cheap too.

The work there took us till 05/05 to complete, That nite, before we came back, we went for another seafood dinner at the kelong. When we reach home in Singapore, it is around 10pm. Took a bath and check my emails. Then went to sleep cause the next day still working. Next day, went back to office and settle the paperworks. Then took the next day off to go and settle some personal errands.

Updates 4

Another quick update from where i stop the previous time.

The rest of April, i was travelling overseas to work. Well, not really work, but went overseas with seniors and supervisor to learn about my work. My first overseas trip was with my supervisor and went to a rig somewhere in Indonesia sea. Set off on 17/04 (Thurs) afternoon at 3.30pm on SQ flight. The traveling was really sucks. It took me about 18hrs to reach the rig. With flight transfers and ferry ride.

The trip was quite interesting and i have learned quite alot of stuffs there. And also understand the working structure and culture on drill rigs. After the first rig’s work was done, we went to another rig just nearby to verify some issues. And that takes a few days. After the verification was done, its time to go home. The trip back home also took about 18hrs. By the time i reached home, it was ard 11pm at night on 23/04 (Wed).

The next day, i took day off to go and collect my van from spray painting. Had sent my van for spray painting before i went overseas. I wanted to change my van’s color to a darker tone of blue, called WRX blue. Had always wanted this color since the time i buy my van. It is the same color i had for my car in USA when i was there.

Anyway, reached the workshop, but found that the van is not for collection yet, will only be ready at evening time. So i decide to change my schedule and took a taxi to Tiong Bahru Plaza to buy and read comics and also watch the movie ‘Forbidden Kingdom’ by Jet Li and Jackie Chan. Then i took taxi back to the workshop and collected my van. Found that they had misplaced one of my LED strip which is at the side of my van. The boss told me to come another day to search for the LED Strip as it was too dark at that time to find it.

The next day, i went to back to office and was told that i will be going to Pasir Gudang in Malaysia with a senior for a commissioning job. The rest of the day was spent clearing the previous job’s paperworks, as well as preparing the paperworks for the upcoming job. At nite, i decide to make a trip to the workshop to find the LED strip. As i also found out that one of my side door couldn’t be opened from inside. And 2 rubber lining above the doors are not stick properly and are coming off. But when i reached the workshop, the boss told me that the worker who are familiar with my van was not around that day and to come back on sun. I told the boss that i will come 1 week later as i will be going overseas again liao.

At night, i went for the EVC regular meetup , STOP, at Queens Bar. Chit chat with my friends there. Next day, my senior is coming over to pick me up. My company had rented a car for us to drove to the location.

Updates 3

Ok ok, i have not been updating my blog for almost the whole of April. Well, i was away for overseas work for almost half of April. Anyway, i will try to fill in from where i stop previously.

Tuesday (25/03), friends from EVC organised a Cheesecake outing at East Coast Road. At first dun know whether to go or not. In the end, decide to go for it. Most of them are meeting up for dinner at a Teochew Yong Tau Hu store nearby there. Was told that the shop is quite famous and good. Was a little late when i reach there. Cause i have to travel by SLE –> TPE –> Tampines Ave 10 –> Bedok North — > Upper Changi Road –> Siglap Road and then circle around to look for parking. And in the end, i went to park in Siglap Center.

Meet up with the guys and had dinner, which was quite good, but slightly ex. But its worth the money. After the dinner, we walked over to the cheesecake cafe and i ordered Rum & Rasin Cheesecake. Its quite nice. And also had Ice Mocha Float. Chatted and laughed with the guys till around 11+pm before heading the long way home again.

From Monday (31/03) to Friday (04/04), was on course at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. The course was Fundamentals of Industrial Hydraulics. Some of the stuffs learnt at the course is really dry, like calculations. But some of the theory is quite interesting and useful.

On Wednesday (09/04), met up with WLNY friends at Tiong Bahru Plaza for dinner and chit chat session. We had Aijisen Ramen at Tiong Bahru Plaza. There is alot of renovation and expanding going on at Tiong Bahru Plaza.  The Aijisen Ramen was the latest add-on in Tiong Bahru Plaza. And there are more shops to come.

And on the Thursday (10/04), EVC Committee had a committee dinner at Sunset Bar & Grill inside Seletar Airbase. All the committee members came and it was fun. The food was quite nice, and the buffalo wings really test a person ability to take spicy stuffs. I had level 3 and already felt the spicy power liao. One of them accidentally ordered a level 10 and that was really spicy!

Updates 2

The next day (Thursday, 20/03) after the training, i had to go to Air Force School @ Paya Lebar for a reservist briefing. Went to pick up Wei Meng at his place and went for breakfast at a nearby McDonald before heading to AFS. This briefing is about the changes in Airforce. Its a NSmen cascaded brief on the new structure by the the officers from TAB/ALS, or should said the Former TAB/ALS. Shall not dwell much into what is being brief, as it is not much of interest to me anymore. Managed to meet up with some ex-airforce colleagues. Chit chat with them and joke with them of some past happenings. After the brief, went for lunch with Wei Meng, Raymond and Tze Chuan. Went back to company after that.

Friday (21/03) was Wei Meng’s house warming. Tried to contact Edmund Tng in the morning, cause was wondering if he need a ride to Wei Meng’s house. In the end, he had drove there himself. He bought his car from another airforce colleagues who is going to USA for 2 years detachment. When i reach there, i was the last. haha. Anyway, chit chat and joke with them and we had our laughter. At around 2pm, we left Wei Meng’s house. I went to Mitchelle house in Bukit Purmei to help her check her computer. Seems like the mother is spoilt after some troubleshoot. Also saw her little doggy, which was very loud! Haha. By the time i left her house, it was around 4pm liao. Loiter around Tiong Bahru Plaza and went home at night.

Sat was spent resting at home, doing nothing much. Slept alot. haha.

Sunday (23/03), was Benny’s little baby girl, Adel’s one month baby shower. It is held in the evening 5.30pm for friends. I wake up around 12noon, then ate my lunch and do some surfing of the net. at about 4pm, set off to Tiong Bahru Plaza to buy comics and then went opposite to read comics before going over to Benny’s house. Saw David and Steven there. Chat with them while eating the buffet. Catch up with them on their latest updates. At around 8pm, we set off. I sent David, who lives in Bukit Batok, home.

Updates 1

Ok, i haven’t been updating my blog since, ermm… 3 weeks ago. So once again, i have to back track on wat happened in March since my last update.. haha. Will have to keep it simple and short..

17th March, went to Malaysia for training by my company, NOV. It is a 3 days course on Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training (BOSINET), which include Offshore Safety Induction, Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET), Fire Fighting, Sea Survival,…etc. The training ground is at Marine Safety Training Service (MSTS) in Johor Port @ Pasir Gudang.

On the first day (17th), the transport company came to my place to pick me and another colleague. Initially, we are suppose to meet at the company for the transport. But i arranged with the transport company to pick 2 of us up at my place in Woodlands, since we will be going thru the Woodlands custom into Malaysia. No point for us to go all the way to Tuas and then head back to Woodlands. My colleague stayed in Yishun, so i went to pick him up in the morning before the pick up time. Another colleague is Malaysian and stayed in Malaysia, so he will drive his own car to the training ground.

After we are in Malaysia, the driver took us for breakfast before going to MSTS. When we reached MSTS, we waited at the cafeteria for our instructor. The traninig was held on a training barge. Later, we are introduced to our instructor. He then briefed us on our course, the durations, the safety, and also did the adminstratives part of the course.

The very first day was about Helicopter, the safety suit, life jackets…etc. Theories on how and wat to do before, during, and after boarding helicopters, how to survive in crashes, underwater capsized… etc. Then we went for lunch and in the afternoon, it was the practical part of the helicopter training. It was really tiring, but somehow fun for the practical.

At night, we went to check in our hotel, Mutiara Hotel, Johor Bahru. Which is beside Holiday Plaza. It is a long journey of about 45mins to 1hr from the MSTS. After check in, we took our bath, rest and met up for dinner. Went to a Jap Buffet for dinner. After that, went back to hotel to rest for the next day.

Next day’s training is all theory, which include performing CPR. Everything ends around 4.30pm which we then went back to hotel and then went for a good thai massage. After which, we went for a good dinner. Not sure where is the place, cause our Malaysian colleague drove us there. The dinner was sumptous and great, and it is quite cheap. We had black pepper crab, sambal lala, oak prawn, hot plate toufu, steam fish, and a sambal veges. And later, we also add a desert in. All for 188RM. After the dinner, we went back hotel pack our bags and had our rest for the day.

The next morning (our last day of course), we checked out the hotel and went to MSTS. Morning session was sea survival, so we got wet. We learnt how to increase our chance of survival in the sea. After lunch, was about firefighting and there was a simple practical session which was at another building. Everything was finished around 5pm. Then the transportation company sent us back to Singapore. Along the way, the driver have to divert to another small road as the main road had a traffic accident ahead and traffic was very slow moving. At the custom, there is also alot of vehicles entering Singapore, so the traffic was also almost standstill. I reached Causeway Point around 7pm.

Rectification work on kitchen window sills.

on the 15th March (sat), my house contractor send someone to do some rectification work on my kitchen window sills. The previous week, Singapore had one of the few heaviest rain. And becoz of this, i found my kitchen window sills with water seeping in. Previously, there is already some seepage, but more towards one corner and during heavy rain with the wind blowing towards my kitchen windows. I did some quick self repair by applying some sealant at that corner. But becoz of the especially heavy rain, the seeping was really bad. The window sills seems like slanted in a way that make the rain water trapped on the sills

The worker came on time. Told him about the problems. Then we went to see the window sills. He told me that he will drill a few more drain holes to let the water passed out more easily. Also, he applied some sealants along the grooves to prevent the rain water from seeping thru. All the work was completed within a hour.

Other Events

On the 9th March, went to Dingshen’s house for his son’s 1 month baby shower. Met up with Shunli at Ang Mo Kio and head there together. Reach there around 2pm and then chit chat with them. Talk about old times and our current situations. Time flies so fast. Dingshen and Shunli is my primary school classmates. We went to Bukit Ho Swee Primary School together. Now the school no more liao. We stayed around the same neighbourhood. We also went to the same secondary school, Queenstown Secondary School, together, but different classes. Then after that, we studied Diploma in Mechantronics also, but different polytechnic. I was in Singapore Polytechnic, Shunli in Nayang Polytechnic and Dingshen in Temasek Polytechnic.

08/03 - Xiuling Birthday Celebration

On the 8th March, after collecting my van from the workshop, went home, rest, changed and then went to Tiong Bahru Plaza to meet the WLNY friends for the celebration of Xiuling’s Birthday. Well, her birthday is on the 5th March, but she wasn’t free then, so we decide to meet on 8th Marc (Sat) nite to celebrate. The meeting time was 9.30pm at McDonald. I went there slightly earlier to buy the cake from Angie The Choice and went to the McDonald to had my dinner there also. Xiuling and her bf arrived on time. With the rest arriving after that. Mitchelle was the last coz she had to rush home from Suntec’s IT Show and then come out again. haha. By then, it was around 10.30pm. After that, we took awhile to decide where to go to celebrate. After some discussion, we decided on Bukit Merah McDonald, as it is larger and lesser crowd than Tiong Bahru. After we reach there, we got some drinks and also got some serviettes from McDonald, cause i forgot to bring paper plates.

We chit chatted for awhile before taking the cake to celebrate Xiuling’s Birthday. Quite fun. And lots of laughter. We ended at around 12 midnite. :)

08/03 - Van’s Alarm System and LED Strips

Haven’t been blogging much lately. Been lazy and been playing facebook.. haha. Well, let me start my recapping some of the events.

Went to install alarm system and LED strips in my van. Was there the previous week, but the guy at the workshop forgotten about my appointment and had taken in a few new cars to work on. Initially, they told me that they would not be able to install the alarm for me that day. Later part, they told me to left my van there and collect it at around 7-8pm that night. As i had other appointments at that time, i told them that i can’t and would come back one week later. Was also quite disappointed with them. How could they forget the appointment. Anyway on the 8th March, i went there at around 11.30am, left my van there for them to install the alarm system and the LED strips. Then went had my lunch at the canteen there. Lennard came to pick me up and we went to the IT Show at Suntec. Reached there around 2pm and meet up with Charlotte. She is getting a new digital camera and need some advice.

The IT Show is at Suntec at level 1, 3, 4 and 6. Mainly the same stuffs with other computer fair. Was thinking of getting a new laptop to replace my personal travel laptop. But decide to put it off till later. But took some brochures to have an idea what to get later. Seems like i would not be able to get a laptop with Windows XP. All the new laptops now is loaded with Windows Vista. Anyway, the Asus 12.1″ laptops series looks interesting. Anyway, we finished going thru the IT Show around 4pm. Then walk to Lennard’s van and was off on our way to collect my van.

Reach there and the guys are still installing the alarm system on my van. The LED Strips is done, but the they met some problems with the installation of the van alarm system. Something to do with the delay in the front cabin’s light turning off after the door had been closed. So they re-wired to tap the signal from the door’s switch. And then later, they discover that the signal from the turbo timer caused the alarm system to de-activate when it is running. So they did some re-wiring and it was done.

Falling Sick…

That day after the gathering with the WLNY friends at Mr Prata, i reached home at around 4am after sending the rest home. Then i started to have diarrhea. Then at ard 5am, went to toilet again. At ard 6am, 8am, 9am, 10am, 11am, 12noon, went to toilets. By then, was really shacked out. Managed to get some sleep after that till 4pm. Wake up with a fever. Checked the temperature with a thermometer and found that my temperature was 37.9 deg C. Took 2 panadols and drank lots of water…  but dun dare to take anything… coz scare of diarrhea.

At nite, ard 8pm, went to North Plaza to get some light dinner. Saw the Chingay@North progression. Stayed awhile to watch the vehicles went pass. Then went home to eat my light dinner. But after that, i had to go to the toilet 3 times. Wanted to go and see the doctor that night, but the clinics around here dun operate on Sunday night. So no choice, i have to go and see the doctor the next day morning.

Next day morning, wake up and still have abit of fever. Called my supervisor and told him that i will be going to see the doctor for diarrhea and fever. Was given 1 day MC to rest at home and medication for my diarrhea and fever. Was told to have soft diet for the next few days. That day, rest and sleep at home.
